Our History

This started as a business venture in real estate many years ago, where I was buying foreclosed properties. I had a thought one day about how each of the properties we were buying, had a person with a story behind it, good or bad. Some were good and that was great, but it was the bad ones that made me think and wonder. How had it come to this for some people, and what went wrong that led to the point of foreclosure? Why had some people seemed to have fallen through the cracks? Some of these people did not need to lose their property. It just seemed maybe they had not been able to find someone who could help them navigate out of the hole they were in, whether the problems were those they had created or had befallen them.
So, I began to do some investigating and trace where the money had gone. For example, if a piece of property is auctioned for $50 thousand and only 500 dollars was owed on it, then the 45 thousand dollars remaining just sits there waiting to be claimed by an interested party. I tried to follow the money, and it turns out that hardly anyone ever claimed that money. Then, the state had set up a program for this and aggressively claimed the property and put it in an account and there it sits waiting to be claimed.
That’s when I decided to go downtown to the state office building, and the 11th floor, where this program was managed, and there I found stacks and stacks of records. These files contained information on people’s money that they were unaware they had. I saw money that had been sitting there for some 50 to 60 years, and lots of it. It was then I had an epiphany, and I started my journey. I made a public records request, and I was allowed to bring my pencil and paper and start looking at files. This led to my first money finding and returning quest. That is where we got our start.

Loving God and Loving your neighbor

There are two commandments we love to go by: to love God and love your neighbor. That being said, how we do this is with God’s help and the willingness of others to allow God to use them in helping others. It is our hope that as we help people and they experience the awesome blessing it is to be restored to their money; they will want to pass it on  and help others too!

Why we do this, is because we want to help people be restored to what is theirs, and receive a blessing in the process. The blessing is not just receiving some money but to realize that God loves them and wants to provide for them. How He cares for them and wants to make a connection with them and that’s what brought this money to them. God uses people to do this and that is why we never charge for what we do herer at Family Asset Services.
